The most compact Kindle, now in Matcha
Amazon has released the new 2024 Kindle, nearly identical to the 2022 model but with minor improvements like a 25% brighter frontlight and faster page turns. It also comes in a new matcha green color, replacing denim blue. The screen is still 6″ with 300 ppi, and while it offers better contrast, it lacks a warm frontlight and isn’t waterproof.

Kindle Kids & Kindle paperwhite Kids
For the youngest readers—thousands of books and audiobooks
Besides the four regular Kindle models we just covered, Amazon also has a couple of models designed specifically for kids. First is the Amazon Kindle Kids edition, which is essentially the same as the basic Kindle but with multiple color schemes and an included cover. There is no ad-supported version. Like the previous model, Amazon Kindle Paperwhite Kids is also essentially just the regular Kindle Paperwhite but with the same kid-friendly features.
The main reason to get one of these, though, is the built-in six months subscription to Amazon Kids+. This is a service that gives you access to thousands of children’s books at no extra cost, as well as a parental dashboard where you can manage your kid’s library.
